Quasars are brilliantly shining heavenly bodies that are extremely far away.
In recent years, with a method called VLBI that uses quasar observations, and by GPS we have begun to understand the absolute movement of tectonic plates.
These quasars also seem to exhibit low carbon emissions at ultraviolet wavelengths.
Haiman is co-author of a paper in the journal Nature examining flashes coming from a quasar.
